Healthy System Indicators

Through our work, we have identified a number of indicators of success that those working towards ED&I outcomes can use to assess the extent to which progress is happening. Some of the ways you might build these indicators into your metrics include using them as an evaluation or research framework, or by incorporating them into existing supervision structures, dedicated one-to-one catch ups, coaching sessions, or reflective spaces, to name a few.

  1. Cross-organizational challenging occurs with appropriate responses to these challenges

  2. Notable and measurable focus on building trusting relationships

  3. Open, honest, and uncomfortable conversations are occurring

  4. Co-productive practices and increased diversity of thought and experience inform all work

  5. Clear and known lines of accountability exist at all levels

  6. Existing inequalities are named, acknowledged and shared honestly across the organization/partnership

  7. The diversity of an organisation and the communities served is known at all levels – data is collected and shared.

  8. Community perspective is valued

  9. A shared imperative for ED&I exists across the organization, partnership and wider system

  10. Measurable commitment to behaviour change at all levels

  11. Shared understanding of what a healthy ED&I system looks like

  12. Individual needs are assessed through the lens of intersectionality and are considered beyond the protected characteristics
